Ron Kobayashi, backed by bassist Baba Elefante and percussionist Steve Dixon, plays with a wealth of contemporary passion and sometimes fury on the nine cuts, all originals by himself and Elefante. Kobayashi’s deft, fluid style brings to mind the best of David Benoit, Chick Corea and, at times even Bruce Hornsby. Baba Elefante’s fretless bass is a consistent wonder, his solos displaying all the singing sonority that his instrument can offer. Steve Dixon is a sensitive yet propulsive drummer, always spurring the music onward, changing in timbre according to the need. |
